"Carrots" was the result of a failed sermon of mine where I had tried to address the age old argument between "Temperance" & "Abstinence". People hear what they want to hear. It's easier to write songs than preach sermons! This song is a bit of a saga! Grab a sandwich.

I hate carrots
but I know that they’re good for me
So I eat carrots I admit reluctantly
My wife piles them on my plate
With a wicked grin
Says they’ll make me healthy
Do me good within
I hate to admit it
But in my house carrots are in

My friend he loves carrots
But the carrots they don’t love him
He’s allergic to carrots
They give him itchy skin
Carrots aren’t the problem
But what the carrot does to him
They make him sick he wants to chuck
He can’t keep them in
My friend won’t admit it but
In his house carrots are sin

Don’t look don’t touch don’t listen
It’s unwholesome ungodly
Downright unchristian
You shouldn’t eat this
And you shouldn’t drink that
Somewhere in the bible is hidden
This very fact
The trouble with the world is
Too many people eat carrots

My friend can’t eat carrots
But with envy see’s that I can
Without carrots he feels cheated
How can he be a real man
He ignores the truth within
Goes on a carrot binge
But all the carrots in the world
Will never satisfy him
The hives on his skin proclaim
Carrots are!

In the battle with the carrot
My friend comes to this conclusion
Carrots are evil of the devil
Those who eat them in delusion
The carrot is the enemy the carrot is the foe
No-one should eat the carrot
The carrot has to go
A new commandment he proclaims
Thou shalt not eat carrots

Is it lawful is it legal Liberty or license
It all seems so confusing
Doesn’t seem to make sense
But the act of eating carrots
Is not the focus of this song
It’s what’s hidden in our hearts
That makes carrots right or wrong

Me and my friend we differ
Theologically
On the doctrine of carrots
We just can’t ever seem to agree
He thinks if I eat carrots
I indulge in willful sin
I just think that carrots
Are personally no good for him
We don’t see eye to eye
About carrots and sin

I believe in hospitality
It’s a true Christian grace
You’ll often find my carrot hating friend
Around at my place
But I won’t cause him to stumble
I’d hate to seem him fall
When dinner is served
You won’t find carrots at all
Such a small price to pay
Going without carrots!
