No! It was not the TV "soapie" that inspired this. It was mainly the passing of my Dad and the sorrow that followed. It's easier to minister to others who mourn than live it yourself. Yet God brings comfort as He promised.

The years flew by so fast
My father tried to warn me but
I just looked at him and laughed
He said the older you get son
The days just drift away
My dad he had some wisdom
I didn't know ‘till he passed away

He had his share of sorrows
Made mistakes like we all do
The disappointments of his life
Left scars in fact quite a few
But the old bloke seemed to linger
To see the tough times through
I thought he’d live forever
But that’s one thing my dad could not do

Like leaves floating on the wind
A breath of air quickly passing by
Like water falling to the ground won’t return
So go the days of our lives

It’s been some years since he died now
But the fact is still hard to bear
It caught me by surprise you see
The fact I wasn’t there
And at times I still feel guilty
For ever failing to be
The son I think I should have been
To a father who truly loved me

My anger to God has subsided
But at times I still wonder why
Why prayers were never answered
At least not the way I would like
The truth is God did not fail me
I just could not comprehend
Our days are numbered by Him
But those days must come to an end

Like leaves floating on the wind
A breath of air quickly passing by
Like water falling to the ground won’t return
So go the days of our lives

Time waits for no man it just keeps ticking by
We can’t hold it back no matter how hard we try
We think we know better God’s got other plans
Something far greater than the dreams of man

I know we truly fool ourselves
Ignoring the truth of God’s word
He’s made appointments for us all
A time when we must leave this world
But so many disregard the fact
Facts that happen each and every day
When the shell of a mortal body
leaves it’s souls and passes away

The death of my dad has taught me
Make the most of each day
We only pass by once you see
The tickets just one way
But for every true believer
There’s a better place in store
The destinations heaven
To live with Jesus forevermore
