about

Excuse the cynicism, but over the years I have often observed what I have termed a “Ministry of Convenience”. People, truly gifted and talented, who will serve God and His church only when it suits their own timetable and agenda, or when it makes sense to them. What a sad sight! But I have delighted in people who have adopted an attitude of the “Minister without Portfolio”. People who will do anything needed, even if it requires action not consistent with their own preferred area of gifting. What a blessing!

lyrics

Jesus on the mountain
Seeking time alone
A crowd gathers round him
They have needs of their own
He begins to teach them
Things they never heard
Life and it’s true meaning
They hang on his every word
It comes to his attention
They have nothing to eat
Five thousand men alone
Not counting the women & kids

Jesus knows what to do
He puts his mates to the test
says guys these people are hungry
You do what’s best
The disciples are shaken
Truly perplexed
Feed over five thousand
What will he expect next
This is impossible
No money no way
Lord tell them all to go home
Come back another day

You gotta be ready willing and able
To serve the Lord at all times
You gotta have faith to do
Whatever He commands
You gotta do what you can
Give what you got
Say what needs to be said
You gotta act on His word
Do as he says
Ignore the doubts in your head
You gotta be ready willing and able
To serve the Lord at all times

The Lord says wrong answer
You give them something to eat
All they have is a young boy’s lunch
Five loaves of bread and two fish
They bring it to the master
They place it in his hands
How He plans to work this out
They can’t understand
He lifts his eyes to Heaven
With a loud voice He gives thanks
And right before their very eyes
A miracle takes place

Well it’s not what you haven’t got
Bu what you have that counts
God will use just what you have
Whatever the amount
It may seem insignificant
Or useless in your eyes
But little in the hand of God
Becomes a big surprise

Back to our story
Five loaves of bread and two fish
Blessed by God have become
An extraordinary dish
The people had sat down
Prepared to eat their fill
Now are well and truly stuffed
Their hunger levels nil
So much is still left over
Twelve baskets overflow
And maybe twelve disciples
Maybe now they know

You gotta be ready willing and able
To serve the Lord at all times
You gotta have faith to do
Whatever He commands
You gotta do what you can
Give what you got
Say what needs to be said
You gotta act on His word
Do as he says
Ignore the doubts in your head
You gotta be ready willing and able
To serve the Lord at all times
